What Claude for Small Business actually is, and why it runs through Cowork
You do not download Claude for Small Business as a separate app. It is a mode you switch on inside Claude Cowork. Anthropic's own line: "Toggle on Claude for Small Business inside Claude Cowork, connect the tools you already use, and pick the job."
Cowork is the part of Claude that does work on its own instead of answering one message at a time. Anthropic describes it plainly: "Unlike Chat, Cowork lets Claude complete work on its own. Describe the outcome and cadence, and it takes action and keeps you informed." Before it does anything that matters, it shows you the plan and waits. You choose which folders and accounts it can touch. I think that approval step is the whole reason this is usable for an owner who will not babysit a robot all day.
Small business AI skills sit on top of that engine. Cowork is the worker doing the labor, and these Claude business skills are the job descriptions you hand it.

Operations gets the contract reviewer and a business-health skill described as "getting a pulse on your business," which is the dashboard you keep meaning to build and never do.

Clear inputs, clear outputs, a recipe to follow, and a recipe is exactly what a skill is. Where a human still wins is judgment under ambiguity, and anything with a relationship on the line. The margin analyzer can tell you which product line is bleeding, but it cannot tell you that the bleeding line happens to be the one your biggest customer orders, so you eat the margin to keep the account.
